Who is Luca Marchini?

The Chef: His Style

Luca Marchini is the Tuscan-Emilian chef behind the Michelin-starred restaurant, L’Erba del Re, located in Modena. He works through a continuous culinary evolution while also carrying on local gastronomic traditions, which is why he is distinguished for maintaining a delicate balancing act. His dishes are known for their balance between textures and flavors, with a combination rooted in respect and a “deep love for ingredients”. His culinary language is straightforward and his recipes explore the influence of simplicity while implementing his technique to develop original creations.

The Restaurant: A Relaxed Lounge

L’Erba del Re is the place to be for giving your senses and palate the experience of a lifetime, all while dining in a comfortably intimate space that feels like your very own living room. An unobtrusive, yet attentive, dining service paints the scene for the kitchen and distinctive wine cellar’s delicious gastronomic stories.

The Stages: His Journey

Even a degree in Business and Economics could not distract Chef Marchini from his true calling: the culinary arts. After a notable apprenticeship in prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants throughout Italy and abroad, Marchini created his own space, allowing him to further express himself and evolve as a chef. As a result, he opened his restaurant in 2003, which was quickly followed by the L’Erba del Re Catering Service, as well as the Scuola di Cucina Amaltea (Cooking School Amaltea) and Trattoria Pomposa al Re gras. In 2020, he launched his newest project, Bottega DA RE: an online shop offering a range of products created with great craftsmanship, ranging from tasty food preserves and large leavened products to dry pastries.

Passion: Hobbies & Interests

Food has a way of bringing people together and impacting social change. For this reason, Chef Marchini is committed to sharing culinary culture through prestigious associations, including JRE, Le Soste, Ambasciatori del Gusto, Chef to Chef, and others. He is also very active in the educational and welfare fields, through his work with projects such as Chef in Ospedale (Chef in the Hospital, at the Carlo Poma in Mantova), and Chef a Scuola (Chef in the School, at the Istituto La Carovana in Modena). In 2020, he initiated his new livestream-cooking project: a series of live lessons, often involving teamwork, including delivery of the recipe’s ingredients and guidance from the chef himself…all from the comforts of your own home.
